We miss Sin Gey Lang Restaurant the last time we headed there as we thought it was closed (it opened at 12 noon and we left a few minutes earlier!). Well, it was good that we came back again today as this restaurant serves pretty good dishes. Like its namesake in Singapore, they served very delicious kung po paddy chicken.
The paddy chicken (frogs) are cooked in thick dark soy sauce with ginger, spring onion and dried chilli. Highly recommended!
Their fried suar chooi hoo (mini sword fish) and chai por tau cheo fish (fish in fermented soybean with radish) were just as good. The latter went well with those who took the smooth porridge. The claim by the young server that the ingredients were fresh was probably right.
We also had their signature Lam Ju pork belly (pork belly in fermented red bean curd), fried bitter gourd with egg and chai por egg (fried egg with radish). They didn’t disappoint. Located in a row of refurbished pre-war shophouses, Sin Geylang’s pricing was quite reasonable.
We adjourned next to Kafka @ 15 Jalan Kelawai for a round of drinks. Ample parking and an easy going atmosphere made Kafka a wonderful tea-time destination. Despite a full capacity crowd, the tables were well-spaced and the high ceiling kept the noise level low.
We noticed that they served a variety of food too.
Perhaps our next makan get-together, no?
