Saigon House Cuisine, located on the recently-renovated “Sri Bahari Road Food Terrace” serves authentic Vietnamese cuisine. The restaurant offers an extensive repertoire of traditional Vietnamese dishes, desserts and drinks. The interior décor is minimalist but cosy.
We decided to order a dish each and some side dishes for sharing. The Pho Bo (Beef pho noodle soup) comes highly recommended as it is a Viet classic. It did not disappoint.
The soft noodles came in a big bowl with flavourful beef-stock soup. Remember to dip the thin slices of beef into the sweet chilli sauce. Tho’m ngon!! It would have tasted even much better if the chef was more generous with the spring onions, basil leaves and other herbs to give the extra oomph.
The bowl of Bun Mang Vit (Duck noodle soup) was also savoury.
We ordered Mien Xao Cua (Fried glass noodles with crab meat), Ga Nuong Mat Ong (Vietnamese grill chicken with honey) and Caramel pork spare ribs for sharing.
The Tang hoon noodles (fried glass noodles) was dry and a bit of a let down.
We added the BBQ pork chops with white rice as it was Lorraine, the friendly owner’s pick. She came over to chat with us about Vietnamese food and how she tries to adapt it to suit our Penang taste buds.
The BBQ pork chops were fragrant and very tasty as were the caramel pork spare ribs. It would have been perfect if the meat was a bit more tender.
The Vietnamese drip-coffee was thick, strong and well-received. We were too full to try the desserts. Overall, Saigon House Cuisine gets our thumbs up for authentic Viet cuisine.
