3/10/2019 - Xiao Long Kan Hotpot @ Sunrise Tower

Hotpot restaurants seem to be gaining popularity in Georgetown. Xiao Long Kan, originating from Chengdu, China is noted for their
selection of premium meats, fresh vegetables and hand-made meatballs. They have just opened a new branch at Sunrise Tower.

Our selections of side dishes included thin slices of pork neck and premium beef, rose meat balls, fish meat, big prawns and lots of vegetables. The waitress serving our table was kind enough to whip up the Xiao Long Kan’s signature sauce.

Xiao’s hotpot has three compartments for three different flavours – the traditional spicy soup (Mala), the tomato flavoured pot and the mushroom soup. The Mala soup is traditionally spicy Sichuan – oily, a good mix of spices and lots of chillies. Flavourful but certainly burning hot!

Verdict? You can’t go wrong with Xiao Long Kan. The owners have spent a small fortune to bring “Chengdu to Penang”. Beautiful scenic Chinese paintings, antique-looking furniture .. even the chopsticks are hand-made! A very impressive entrance too. For this, we have to pay a premium price for a premium lunch!
